Lego Micro SpiritjawaproThu 02/09/2010 10:59 PM
Tomorrow is Richie’s last day at work (end of contract) - so as a farewell gift, I made him a micro Lego Spirit. Not as awesome as the whopping great huge one Aaron made - but a nice little gift I think. This was my first real attempt at scaling something down - and I think it went quite nicely.
Good luck Richie! Hope you find work soon! It’ll be odd not having another Lego fan at work now.

Tomorrow when the War Began begins tomorrow.jawaproWed 01/09/2010 09:11 PM
Have you read Tomorrow When the War Began? If not - you should. If you have, you should probably read it again. It’s fantastic.
John Marsden - easily the equal best Australian author (with Matthew Reilly) in the last 100 years, wrote a fantastic series of books that started with TWTWB. Officially known as the Tomorrow series, most people call it by the first book: Tomorrow When the War Began.
I only read them a few years ago, and I couldn’t put them down.
And starting tomorrow (Thurs) it is opening in cinemas as a movie. Good Australian movies are few and far between - but this one has serious potential, simply because of the story it’s based on.
Will this be the best Australian movie since The Man From Snowy River? Who can tell. But even if the movie sucks, you should read the books just to know what could have been. On the other hand, this may finally be the Australian movie we can be proud of. We’ll see…
So as soon as I can, I’ll be joining Ellie and her friends as they march out of Hell and into war.

Snow!jawaproSun 29/08/2010 09:08 PM
I decided to stay in Devonport this weekend, and went to church at Ulverstone. It’s very similar to our church, so I feel pretty comfortable there.
After church, I met up with Tim, Tom, James, Jason, Wes, Bec, and Ek and headed up to the snow at Lake McKenzie. A few of them had been last weekend, but enjoyed it enough to go back.
This time it was Tim’s Maverick, Jason’s Patrol, and my Pajero (Oscar). For the first time ever, I went on a trip with Jason, and I didn’t break anything! He did though - he was behind Tim’s car and Tim kicked up a rock and it hit Jason’s windscreen. The windscreen was intact, but seriously compromised with cracks running the full height of it.
At least it wasn’t me this time!!!
The road was slippery - but not challenging. Someone had taken a Hyundi Excel up there - so the 4wds weren’t really necessary.
That said - this guy needed some assistance. He’d been forced off the road by and oncoming vehicle and gotten stuck. The Jackaroo tried to pull him out, but it lost traction too - so Tim’s Maverick connected to him and the three-way recovery got underway.
When we got to the snow Tim and the others who’d been there before were disappointed as there was far less. But we still had some fun.
Sadly the snowboarding didn’t work as well as hoped.
As expected - it soon degenerated into a snowball war. (that white dot in the air is a snowball). Sadly I can’t throw for toffee.
During the war, Bec and Ek built snowmen. So much for supporting the cause!
As will all wars - the arms race soon saw traditional weapons being upgraded with more powerful versions.
I suggested putting a bit of snow on top of my car to see if it would make it back down to Devonport - but as always, Tim decided to take things to the extreme.
That’s a lot of snow! Thanks guys...
If it wasn’t for the roofracks, I think my roof would be dented.
Tim and Tom built snowmen simply to drive into them.
After missing the first time, Jim had a second attempt in the Maverick.
Wasn’t game to keep the snow up there for long, so we took it off again.
There was still enough snow to have a small snowfight at the Macdonalds carpark in Devonport when we got home again.
A very fun trip - but still nothing compared to the snow in Europe. Thanks heaps guys - especially to Bec and Ek who were brave enough to come along in Oscar.

Pointless weekendjawaproTue 24/08/2010 07:27 PM
Well - that achieved a lot...
I was going to go to Strahan this weekend with some of my mates - but they pulled out so I didn't go. Instead I went down to Hobart to see my sister graduate. That bit was successful, but the more important reason was to go and buy a GPS at Anaconda who were having a nice sale - but they'd sold out.
I did buy myself a new couch in Launceston, but I couldn't bring that home because it was raining.
My new coat arrived from ebay. It's fantastic - I love it - but it doesn't fit me. Sadly no matter how much weight I might lose, I don't think my shoulders will get narrower.
I attempted to lodge my taxes for the second time, and yet again it appears I'll owe them money. So much for using a refund to pay for the couch...
Oh yeah - and Australia went stupid in the election and didn't vote in a government.
Almost half of Australians proved they are idiots and voted for Labour. At least they aren't all complete idiots - those guys voted for the Greens.
So now we don't know who will be running the country. Depending how you look at it, you could say it's win-win or lose-lose. If Labour gets in, we'll get the NBN (Fibre to the Node Broadband) which is probably a stupid idea for the country, but that won't stop me from using it. And if Labour loses power, well we'll get a decent government. I'd prefer a decent government to a stupidly expensive NBN, but I'll take what I can get.
What a great weekend.

Just another post...jawaproTue 17/08/2010 06:37 PM
Well - a decent amount of stuff has happened that's worthy of being blogged, but I haven’t taken any photos of it, so instead here's a photo of a pretty awesome lego MOC. This guy has used Lego Star Wars minifigs to make a Space Invaders game.
Anyway - on with the news.
Jason (the guy with the Patrol and no sump plug) had his 18th birthday recently. To celebrate he decided to have a LAN at my house, followed by a Bush Dance (not at my house).
The LAN was awesome. Such a great group of guys playing some great games (C&C3, Flatout, and Starcraft II). Sadly SC2 isn't half as much fun multiplayer as it is single player. James enjoyed it though, as he's the only one to have played online and relished the chance to thrash everyone.
The downside of the weekend was that I got sick. I'd been toying with the idea of getting a cold for a couple of days, but on Saturday arvo I gave that up and gave it a proper go. By the end of Saturday I was feeling pretty much dead, and wasn't able to make it to the bush dance. Pity - as it sounds like it was a lot of fun. On the other hand, maybe it was a good thing, as I'm not exactly what you'd call graceful.
Sunday was wiped out and spent mostly in bed. The big news of the day was that Terreth and Martha have a son! He's name's Job which is awesome.
Last week I went to see Inception with Tim which was pretty darn cool, and I'm about to go and watch The Expendables, which looks blooming awesome!
Apart from that - I've been playing a lot of StarCraft 2. While I might not be sure about multiplayer, it's fantastic singleplayer. I'm playing it on hard, which is proving quite a challenge, but it's fun. Especially seeing as James has wimped out and is playing it all on normal or easy (not sure which).
So that's me. I'll leave you with a link to an awesome video clip that combines Starcraft and Lego - pure heaven!
