Toy Story 3

Just got back from watching Toy Story 3.

Ignoring the fact that I’m not a big 3D fan - this movie was excellent.

Probably the best Toy Story movie ever - as well as possibly the best movie of the year. Seriously, at this moment I’m not sure I can think of a better one.

This movie kicks Avatar’s butt all the way to Pandora.

Apart from one fairly predictable moment (the one after the hand holding scene - no spoilers) it was brilliant. It still felt fresh, not like Shrek by the 3rd outing.

It’s also a pretty moving movie. It’s still a kid’s movie, but it’s downright scary in places. I’ve seen reviews where people said it’s the first Pixar movie where they weren’t sure if the any of the main characters would survive - and I can see why. I wont say who survives and who doesn’t - but it’s epic. Bec was crying for the last 10 minutes of the movie. It isn’t a sad movie - it’s just very powerful.

This is no simple rehash to get something out in 3D - this is sheer movie brilliance.

Go and see it.

Spoils of war...

Tis the season of Toy sales. Good time to be me, bad time to be my wallet (or Turkeybrain for that matter).

Today it was Kmart's turn to be the field of battle.

Last night they had a whole stack of Nerf Longshots - as witnessed by Tim who did a recon trip.

The sale started this morning, and I was there before 9:30 in the morning (on my way to work) and there was a single lone Longshot there. This was sad, as Tim had sent me with instructions to get one for him, and a second so he and Jim could give it to me as a late birthday present (thanks guys!)

So guarding the last longshot with my life, I went on the hunt.

I spied one in a trolley that looked abandoned, but the owner returned before I could escape with it. I saw another one walking around, but the owner was guarding it too.

But just as I was going to give up and buy the single gun, I walked back past the Nerf shelf. A women was just reurning a couple of guns that she was laybuying for her kids and discovered they didn’t need actual stock to laybuy. So there was another longshot on the shelf!

There was a mad scramble, fists were flying, people were cursing, but at last I stood victorious, with two Longshots.

Of course, the above is an over-dramatisation - but there were other people who had their eye on it too - but I beat them to it.

So two Longshots and a pack of ammo. Tis the spoils of war!

Weekend (Myer, Amie, and stuff)

I went to Myer on Friday night - hence the spoils...

Actually, the lego is mine - the nerf darts are for Tim and the Mario stuff is for Richie. I went to Myer, but they went by proxy.

20% off lego plus and extra 10% off by signing up for a Myer card. How could I resist 26%? (I think that’s the way the math works).

Anyway - after making the haul into Myer and being disappointed that they didn’t have some of the stuff they should (or the haul out of Myer would have been even more impressive) I went back to my parents place.

Klutz had brought Amie down for the weekend. She lives in Brisbane, but Klutz had organized airfares and things so she could come down and meet the family down here. Great to finally meet her (although I’ve forgotten if her name is spelt Amie or Amy).

In order to show off as much of the state as possible and introduce her to Klutz’s relations we went on a trek on Saturday. Down to Hobart, back up to St Helens, and finally back to Launceston. With stops for family, meals, sightseeing, and roadside repairs after running into wallabies, it was a very long day. Good - but very long.

In other news - Steven Moffat is far better than his predecessor. The second half didn’t suck! It was in fact, quite cool. My only complaint is that if every season of Doctor Who has to end on such a massive cliff-hanger where the universe, time, or at least the planet is going to be destroyed, it’s going to get old. You just can’t ramp it up any higher than that.

And to wrap things off - my sister has got her results from uni. She passed honours! Not sure if that means we need to call her The Honourable Emma Kingston now or what - but it’s cool. Well done Loopy!

The Pandorica opens...

The Doctor is seperated from the Tardis...

And Steven Moffat's challenge begins....

The first half of the series final of Doctor Who has aired in the UK and across the internet. And it's big.

This is probably Steven Moffat's greatest challenge and biggest chance to prove he has it all over Russel T Davis when it comes to writing Dr Who. RTD had some great ideas that lead to awesome endings of the first part of two-parters, but almost always failed to carry through. In fact, he was often doing well if the second half didn't outright suck.

So far Steven Moffat has done a brilliant job. Taking the reigns to the show at the same time as introducing a new Doctor (and lets face it - most people loved the previous Doctor) must have been a daunting challenge - but he's pulled through and delivered and absolute corker of a season. With the exception of a questionable art direction with the Daleks - it's been brilliant.

So here we stand at the raggity edge, at the very brink, and the entire universe in the balance - can the Doctor save the day - or more importantly, can Steven Moffat?

Numa Numa rip-off....
jawapro
Mon 21/06/2010 05:37 PM

Couldn't believe my ears...

Someone has ripped off the Numa Numa song!

After listening to this pitiful rip-off on the radio, I had to go and find the real thing again.

The original song is by a Moldovan band called O-Zone and was extremely popular after a guy called Gary made a video of himself dancing to it and posted it online. This went viral in the days before Youtube - when going viral was still something to be proud of.

Well, turns out that Rihanna and some guy called Ti have released a much lamer song called "Live your life" that unashamedly rips off the Numa Numa song. It's in English - but lacks the awesome vibe of the original.

So if you havent already seen it - take a look at the original, and give Rihanna's version a miss.
