Dont like your country? - Buy a new one!!!jawaproSun 21/01/2007 11:00 AM
Thats what the legendary pirating website (thepiratebay.org) is trying to do.
To get away from all those pesky copyright laws that makes a pirates life miserable, they are going to try and buy a small country.
And I do mean SMALL.
Its not even land. Its an old World War II Gun Platform off the coast of England. (It looks like an oil-rig)
Apparently it had 200 people on it during the war - or so one website said. I think that´s pretty rediculous - its tiny.
But is it really it´s own country? Well - the current owner says it is. He has even fired warning shots at British ships that have gotten too close.
But at the moment he is the only person living in the country of "Sealand".
And he wants to sell it - so the PirateBay wants to buy it and set it up as their headquaters.
Will they do it? Personally I doubt it - but it will definatly be interesting.
The PirateBay have already made a lot of trouble for the copyright world. They were sued and the ´good guys´ tried to shut them down - but it didnt work.
And because there was such an uproar about it in Sweaden (where it is currently based) they are now pretty safe - because any politician who got them shut down would probably find himself out of a job.
But if they owned their own country then they could do whatever they wanted.
I´ll keep you informed.

Small updatejawaproThu 18/01/2007 11:00 AM
Well, I´ve applied for another rental up here in Devonport.
And we went and saw Happy Feet last night.
Apart from that - nothing much has happened lately - but I thought I should post a new entry anyway.
Work is going well - but the drive is really getting me down. I cant wait till I get a place up here.
My first choice property is a small one-bedroom house near the beach - great for bike riding. I might even get fit - stranger things have happened!
And while you´re here - I invite you to have a say in the next version of Jawapro.com.
I am going to redesign the site soonish - as the current host is going to change and I´ll be finding a new one anyway.
So here´s your chance. Head over to the forum at http://www.jawapro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=117 and let me know what you´d like to see in the next iteration of my website.

Good News and BadjawaproWed 10/01/2007 11:00 AM
Today was only a half day of work thanks to the Devonport Cup. That was good.
My new 320G HardDrive arrived toay. That was VERY GOOD.
I had to buy an external hardrive enclosure because I didnt have room for another Harddrive in my computer. That was neigher good nor bad.
Dad´s car ran out of clutch so I had to come and pick him up from the service station. That was bad for him because now he cant get to work as easily. At least he still has his bike.
And the Bad News. I finally got a responce from the Real Estate people - and they turned me down. Now I´m back on the hunt for somewhere to rent. I wouldnt have minded so much if they hadnt wasted so much time by not giving my application to the owners.
So for now I´m still at home and travelling each day.
And still buying more lego from Ebay.
By the way - my new Harddrive is called Zoltan (Z:) - just cause I needed a name for it.
And the little Robo Sapien dude? Well he´s just something I picked up for 50c when I was looking for a 2nd-hand bookcase.

Rental ApplicationjawaproSun 07/01/2007 11:00 AM
Hmm - I´ve been trying to get a place to rent up here in Devonport - but havent had much success yet.
I found a really nice place - and applied for it - but they Real Estate people havent got back to me yet. I´m starting to get crabby with them actually - I wanted to try and move in last weekend, but it´s the following week now and they still havent gotten around to giving my application to the owners yet - so it´ll be at least the end of this week before I know (and then I might not get it anyway).
So for now I´m still travelling - which is especially annoying now that the DAKAR is on because I wont be home in time to watch it.
The VCR will get a work-out this week...

The DAKAR is Back!!!jawaproSun 31/12/2006 11:00 AM
I just checked the TV guide - and SBS is once again showing coverage of the DAKAR at 6:00 each day starting from 7th Jan 07.
I cant wait - this is, as far as I am concerned, the single most important sporting event of any given year.
It´s about 14 days or so of flat out Desert Rally Driving - in 4wds, bikes, and trucks.
Its fantastic. Probably still the hardest rally in the world.
And it makes for some great tellevision.
