Meet Bob!
Meet Bob the Big Blue Blob.
More about him later.
Mum and Dad came through today and had a look at my washing machine - cause it had died. Well - turns out that it mostly worked when they were watching (figures) but it still leaked - so we decided to replace it.
So now I have a new Washing Machine.
Dad also put my TV antenna up on the roof - but alas we still cant pick up TDT. I got TDT briefly when I put the arial in the tree (see earlier post) but then it stopped working again.
Anyway - at least it´s out of the tree now.
And back to Bob.
I went to the Exeter market today - and bought a few pieces of junk. And along with it - I hired Bob the big blue blob to act as a security guard to protect my place. I saw him hanging from a table at the market - and he was too cool to just leave him there. (yes Mum, I know I´m a sad case...)
And believe me - he can be a scary dude if you try and sneek in...

On the boat to MelbournejawaproWed 07/03/2007 11:00 AM
Well - I´m on my way to Melbourne again.
And this time I have a laptop and wireless card to see how far out to sea the connection works.
Should be interesting - and the captain just announced that the sailing might be rough.
Hope I dont get seasick...
-----
Update - Its now almost 11 at nignt - and I still can access the net. Its pretty flakey though - and keeps disonnecting.
And the boat is rocking a little - but not too bad at all.
Which is good - cause I had a pretty big tea. You seem to pay the same price no matter how much you stack it - so you might as well make it worth while :)

OCR BluesjawaproTue 06/03/2007 11:00 AM
Help - We saved a document - but now we cant find it.
Thats the phone call I got a day or two back. I had a look - but although they claim to have saved the document, it´s completely vanished.
They have a printed copy, and think that´ll be enough - but I happen to be foolish enough to mention that we could probably scan them in using an OCR program so they can edit the text again.
Well - today they decided to take me up on it.
So I had a look around all the free and open source OCR programs I could find - and they all sucked.
Some had about a 50% success rate for converting the scanned document back into text. Some were far less than that.
And then I stumbled across this site that told me that the answer was right under my nose.
Microsoft Office comes with its own OCR program - and compared to the free ones - it totally kicks butt!
If you have Office installed, go Start->Office->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Scanning
It´ll scan the image, and then find the text in it. You can then click ´Tools->Copy to Word´ and it´ll go and plonk the text straight into a new Word document.
Much better than any of the free ones I found. Only a couple of typos to fix and some formating - it´s great!
Just thought I´d let everyone know in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation.

Shocking...jawaproMon 05/03/2007 11:00 AM
Yet another of my many ebay purchases. These remote control tanks are shockingly fun.
When your tank gets hit, your controler zaps you. Sort of like grabing an electric fence.
I took them down to church camp on the weekend and convinced most of my friends to have a go with them. Of course, most of the time I didnt warn them that they shocked you.
The controlers have been thrown away so many times that one is starting to show some damage - but they still work fine.
So come and challenge me to a duel of the remote control tanks - if you dare!

Small updatejawaproTue 27/02/2007 11:00 AM
I have just updated my website so it now emails me when someone leaves a comment. That way I know when someone leaves a comment at one of my blogs.
Currently I´ve been relying on noticing it manually - which is fine for the newest posts, but the older ones sometimes escaped my notice. Shouldnt be a problem now. Email me if you have any issues though.
