A Pointless PostjawaproThu 26/04/2007 10:00 AM
Yes – I’ve posted again. No need to look so excited.
My good mate Mr Turkey-Brain (pictured) has been pestering me about the fact that it’s been so long since I posted last.
Well – I’ve been busy latey. I’ve been working (as per normal) and working on my new website when I’ve been home. It’s still not ready to open up to the public yet – but it’s getting closer.
Personally I think it’s a good improvement over this one – but it’ll be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks.
Anyway – I went to Hobart on the weekend. There was a model train auction on down there – so I went for a look. I didn’t buy anything except a calander – but it was a heap of fun anyway.
The train tracks are a picture I took near Oatlands on the way down. Why? Just cause I could.
Anyway – before the train auction – there was a computer auction.
Mr TurkeyBrain came to that one.
So did Trojen - but he didnt buy anything.
Turkey bought himself a server (pictured).
It’s only a P3 – but it looks pretty awesome (in my geeky opinion). I’d love to bring a computer that looks like that to a LAN party sometime.
Anyway – poor Mr TurkeyBrain – he still hasn’t managed to get into the server.
The OS wont boot.
The Bios is passworded.
It dosnt have a floppy or CD.
And he cant even get into the case because it’s locked and he didn’t get the key.
So it´s essentially useless.
But even so – it still looks cool.

My website crashedjawaproWed 18/04/2007 10:00 AM
Last night I was working on the new version of my website - and I accidentally uploaded some stuff over the top of this site.
So for a couple of hours my site was down totally.
I managed to get it back up and running - by uploading some old files. Unfourtuantly this means that some of my stuff isnt here anymore.
If you find something that dosnt seem right - or cant find something that should be there - please let me know.
My new website is comming along nicely - and it´ll replace this one when it´s finished.
Catch you around,
- JP

I ran into a wall...jawaproMon 16/04/2007 10:00 AM
I seem to have somewhat of a problem with walls.
This is the fourth time I´ve damaged a car by running into a wall - and it´s the first time in this car.
My sister ran into the back of a 4wd, my mum smashed up the front of her car hitting a wallaby, then she blew up her engine, my cousin got his car stolen, and another one ran up the backside of a BMW - but with me, it´s walls.
Twice in the work car, once in my old car, and now this time.
Why did I do it this time? Well - my unit has one of the stupidist parking spaces I´ve come accross. It´s almost like the carpark was built before one of the units. You either have to jump the curb a bit, or take about 20 turns to get in. And today when I was backing out, I must have been carrying too much speed - because I bounced over the curb and touched the wall.
It was only a light touch - but the bricks are rough, and took some paint off and left some nasty gouges.
I´ll try and paint it to make it less obvious - but I dont think I can repair it completely.
Shame - I have to remember to watch out for those pesky walls in future...

A Train TripjawaproMon 16/04/2007 10:00 AM
Well - this weekend I took a train trip.
Or more to the point - I took my trains on a trip.
I went down to my cousin´s place on the Tasman Peninsula. They have a collection of trains too - and unlike mine, theirs were all running. So they said they´d let me try mine out on their track.
So down I went.
And eventually we got all 4 of my engines going - at least to a point.
I´ll post a more detailed account and some pictures when I get a USB cable for the camera (left the cable at my parents place). The picture here is of one of my trains - but it´s a picture I´d taken a while ago.
And as I was preparing to head back up North, Grandpa showed me an ad in the paper. There´s a model train auction next weekend in Hobart - so I might be heading south for the weekend again. Sigh - more petrol gone...

Drongo PHP Database Connection SystemjawaproFri 13/04/2007 10:00 AM
Well - guess what?
I´ve actually developed some dodgey code that other people might find usefull.
I´ve named it the "Drongo PHP Database Connection System".
If you´re interested in PHP programming and especially using MySQL and Postgres databases - then this might interest you. Otherwise - you´d probably want to skip this post.
Basically - the Drongo system means you can write code that will work on both MySQL and Postgres systems - by only changing a line or two (in the dbwrapper.php file).
Instead of calling either database directly, you have to call the functions in my code. It includes:
dbconnect()
dbwrite()
dbread()
dbdisconnect()
And when the data comes back - it´s in the Postgres format. As in $arrayname[$i][´fieldname´]
So for each row that matches, you get one entry in the first array, and that entry is an array of all the fields.
Sound complicated? Well - I used to use the MySQL way of doing things for ages - but now I´ve used Postgres, I dont want to go back. Why? - not sure, but I like it.
But sometimes you have to use MySQL because Postgres isnt avaliable - and this will let you emulate it. Sort of. Dosnt do anything about dates and what-not. It´s only the way you send SQL to-and-fro.
At the moment it has no documentation or anything - so it might be difficult to understand - but I wanted to put it up here so I can find it when I need it :)
I´ll add some proper documentation soon.
So if you´re interested - take a look.
