Farewell to TrojenjawaproTue 18/09/2007 07:18 PM
You know - sometimes I hate the ship.
It’s great working for it, and it’s a very nice ship and all – but since I’ve been working there, I’ve watched all 3 of my best mates sailing away to go and live on the mainland.
Not that it’s anything to do with the ship per say, it just feels that way as you’re watching it leave.
And in case anyone from work is reading this - let me just make it clear that I really do like the ships - I just dont like it when my friends leave.
So Trojen (Daniel) has left. He’s off to make his fourtune in Melbourne. Hopefully he manages it (or at least enough to get by). I’ll be praying for you mate.
And in case you’re wondering about the picture below, that’s Dan on the night of his farewell BBQ. I was the only one sober enough to drive, and they needed more beer (yes, that kind of BBQ) so we did a dash to the bottle-shop and Maccas on the way home. I think Daniel was annoyed that I got the last thick-shake.

Colin McRae - Dead after a Tragic accidentjawaproMon 17/09/2007 12:13 PM
Colin Mcrae - one of the biggest names in Rallying - died on Sunday in a helicopter accident at his home in England.
Back when I started following Rally in a big way, Colin was already past his prime. He'd been World Champion a couple of times, but wasnt quite up to that anymore. But even so, he was one of the most memorable characters in the Rallying world. And he put in some amazing drives.
He since retired, but had retruned to compete in the Dakar and a couple of special rallies in the years since then.
It was claimed, if Colin was on maximum attack, he would either win, or crash. And he did a fair bit of both.
But yesterday, he was killed, along with his 5 year old son, and 2 of their friends in a Helicopter accident. A very sad day for the rallying world.
The current World Championship is looking very interesting though. Last year Sebastion Loeb won the championship, even though he didnt compete in the last few rallies due to a broken shoulder. He was that far in the lead!
This year, he's not even in the lead at all. Marcus Gronholm is the current leader - and I'm really hoping he manages to hold on. Not that I have anything against Loeb (apart from the fact that he's French) but I'd rather see him knocked off the top spot this year. And Gonholm is planing to retire at the end of the year - so going out in the top spot would be the perfect ending for him.
Just to prove how close the championship could be at the end - the most recent round (won by Marcus) had 0.3 seconds between First and Second place. Look at the second hand on your watch. See how long it takes to move? Ok, now halve that - and you're still not as close as the difference between first and second!

NOT HAPPY JAN!jawaproWed 12/09/2007 10:49 PM
Well – I’m currently rather angry.
But before I go on with that – I’ll let you guys all laugh at me.
I occasionally enjoy playing the Sims 2. About once a year or so I’ll decide I want to play it, and then a week later wonder why I’d bothered and stop.
Ok - you can stop laughing now.
Well, it’s been ages since I last played it, and I decided I’d like to give it another shot.
But instead of borrowing a copy from a mate again, I decided to buy it (I’m trying to own all the game I play these days). So I headed off to ebay to see how expensive it was.
And for a fairly cheap price I could buy a copy that came with 3 of the expansions packs.
So I bought it, and it arrived very quickly (I was impressed – as it had come from overseas). But when I opened it and read the back, I knew something was up. The Case looks pretty good and professional, but the back talks about the fact that it comes with “trainers” and “cheats” and things. Somehow I doubt that the legit copies of the game would come with them.
So I asked the seller point-blank. “Is this a legal copy”.
And he was quite happy to admit it wasn’t.
So now I’m rather angry.
I’m not a big fan of the software copyright laws or the price of games and things – but I really detest anyone who copies someone else’s work for profit.
So now I have to decide what to do about it. I’ve asked for my money back – and if I don’t get it, I’ll contact ebay and try to get my money back from them. It was via Paypal, so there’s a fair chance I’d get it back. And I might even contact EA Games just to see if they can do anything against him. I’m rather annoyed – as I’ve already said.
But anyway – enough of that for now.
In other news.
The results of my opinion polls are in.
9 out of 10 Klutz’s prefer www.headlessmoron.com to www.jawapro.com for their browsing experience. And so, it appears, do the rest of you.
And yes – that’s how Klutz worded his response when we were chatting on Yahoo.
So I’m going to transfer this website over in the next few days. This domain (www.jawapro.com) will continue to work – no worries, but the website will look like www.headlessmoron.com instead.
And I had an embarrassing moment at work today. I had replaced a computer a while back (changing host name) and it turns out that another computer was trying to print using it’s printer via the old name – and I hadn’t noticed. And it took me a while to fix it because the printer driver thought it had the wrong ink cartridge installed or something stupid.
Wouldn’t have been an issue – except I happened to be with the Boss at the time – so it was rather embarrassing.
Not as bad as Nifen though. Sounds like he’s had a lousy day. He was installing a hard-drive in a server, and the whole thing crashed – and they’ve been working all night trying to fix it. Not his fault, mind you, but it’s an awful feeling when you mess something so important up.
I’ll be praying for you Nifen, wether you appreciate it or not.
Anyway – hasn’t been a great day for either of us. And I’m still annoyed that I got scammed on ebay. I had a vague feeling it might not be legit, so I’d actually emailed another customer who had already received theirs to ask if it was legit – and they said it was! Far out!
Anyway, stay tuned and I’ll let you know how I go. I don’t even feel like playing the Sims anymore anyway.

The arrival of Jade and the departure of TrojenjawaproMon 10/09/2007 09:34 PM
Well, good news and bad news tonight.
My laptop (Jade) has arrived. It's a HP NC4000, and although Turkeybrain dosnt like it, I'm quite happy with it. In my experience, HP is a good brand, and it's the right size and everything for my case. It also goes nicely and has decent battery life so I can use it as a laptop when I want to. And it looks far nicer than the competition for what that's worth. It also has Video out - which is usefull for movies. And I can make use of the inbuilt wireless connectivity as my ADSL router happens to have wireless. Only because it used to belong to my old boss, who was told by a technician that it was faulty and he had to buy a new one. Of course, there was nothing wrong with the modem after all, and he ended up selling it to me.
On the subject, one of my friends thought their computer was dead a while back, and took it into a computer shop, where they convinced him to buy a new one because the old one was had it. He gave it to me for parts - and after I swapped the dead power supply for a new one, it worked fine. I got a newish PC out of the deal - but I still dislike stupid techies who tell people that things are dead when they're not.
But anyway - the bad news is the fact that one of my best mates (Mr Trojen) has decided to up-stumps and move to the mainland. And to make it worse - of my three best mates, Trojen is the last to make the trek to the mainland. Good luck mate!
I'm going to have to find some more local friends I guess. Even Turkeybrain is at the other end of the state. At least Trojen's only going as far as Melbourne and I'll be across for work occasionally and should be able to catch up then.
And there's a chance that one of my other mates, Klutz, could be comming back to Tassie for uni next year. But that all depends on which unis accept him and which he accepts and such.
Ah well - good thing I'm not a terribly social person I guess.
Oh yeah, and we went down to Ross on the weekend to celebrate Terreth and Martha's wedding. Stupidly I didnt get any photos though.
Anyway - I'll leave you with a photo of my new laptop. And in case you're wondering, it's called Jade because it's going to be a partner with the server, which is going to inherit the name Mara.
