Transformers II: Reven of the FallenjawaproMon 29/06/2009 08:33 AM
I had been planning to ask Megatron and Ransack (2 of my Transformers) to review the new Transformers movie - but after 2 pages of bickering, they really hadn’t said anything useful - so I’m going to have to do it myself.
If you liked the first movie - you’ll like this one.
Most of the same people and transformers are back - even some who should have been dead (Blackout, the minesweeper, Megatron). Some of these are explained, and others aren’t. They couldn’t fix Jazz unfortunately.
There are a heap of new Transformers. ArCee shows up (she’s a female transformer) and apparently consists of three parts that turn into motorbikes (she used to turn into a single bike in the cartoons). She isn’t used much though - and is almost pointless to the story.
The Autobot twins are a different kettle of fish though. They initially combine to form an Ice Cream Truck - but later change into 2 sporty hatchbacks. They’re pretty insane though - and make for some cheap laughs.
More importantly the Constructicons and Soundwave turn up. I’m not sure what Soundwave would transform into - as he spends his time in space hacking into a satalite (both physically and electronically). He doesn’t eject cassettes, but he does launch smaller transformers, including Ravenge.
We also get Wheelie again - and he’s just as annoying as ever, but this time he’s a Decepticon and transforms into a remote controlled toy truck. He’s actually far funnier than he used to be.
Megatron’s back - and seems to turn into a tank this time around, and also seems to kill Optimus Prime.
I say ‘seems’ because it’s hard to tell who’s who in the Decepticon army, as they all look too much alike. Yet another good reason for giving Megatron his real head back.
The Autobot Matrix of Leadership turns up in the movie - and is used in a good way that makes sense to the story of the movie.
Like with the first one - there are lots of explosions and fights and good stuff in the movie.
If you enjoyed the first movie, and like Transformers, then you should enjoy this one.
P.S. Like the Cylons, Transformers can apparently look like us now...

As I was on Holidays, Martin was up (he's their cousin), and I have an Xbox - the Coles's decided to invite us over for tea this week.
It was good fun - and Martin probably appreciated another decent meal (my cooking isn't superb).
As you can tell from the photo of Bradley vs his Dad - it's serious business. Need For Speed: Most Wanted.
Anyway - Martin has gone home now. He had to work on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately on Wednesday morning one of his harddrives died. Thankfully he was running a RAID (mirrored disks) so he hasnt lost any data. On the other hand - it looks like 750G drives aren't common anymore - so replacing the dead drive will be harder.
Embarrassingly, after having a LAN for the better part of a week with Turkey, as we were packing up I remembered that I had actually already bought a gigabit switch and we could have been using it all along! Darn I'm stupid sometimes.
So Turks (Martin) has gone home, Klutz is here to watch the new Transformers movie, and Neptune has been banished again (he hasnt learnt yet).
Stay tuned for a review of Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen....

Command and Conquer 4????jawaproTue 23/06/2009 12:01 PM
I just completed a survey email from EA. Looks like C&C4 is in the works, and also looks like it'll be the final in the series. I'm sad it's the end - but I guess it needs to end sometime. Hopefully it's good.
Command & Conquer 4 allows C&C fans to finally experience the epic conclusion to the 15-year Tiberium saga with innovative RPG-like player progression, persistent in both single player and Multiplayer modes, co-op play, and new stylized, live-action cinematics.
- Play in the first RTS game with MMORPG like player progression in which you are rewarded every time you play. Every unit you kill in single player, multiplayer, or skirmish gives you experience points that allows you to level up your abilities and unlock new units, powers, and upgrades to your arsenal.
- Introducing the first mobile base in RTS games: The Crawler. Focus on the action as the Crawler becomes your all-in-one base, which can be deployed and redeployed anywhere on the battlefield for even more strategic options
- Play with all new, bigger and badder, units from GDI and Nod, including the Crawler, the first ever mobile base in RTS games
- Dive into an all-new story written by a new scriptwriting team and told through trademark C&C cinematics taken to the next level with grittier, stylized FMVs in the vein of Minority Report.
- Play in the first ever class-based C&C game – a new challenge for C&C and RTS players to master
- Play the campaign on your own or tackle it with a friend, as co-operative campaigns return
- Play in epic 5 vs 5 online multiplayer with all new objective-based game modes
Ok - me again now. I'm quite interested in the additional RPG elements. Especially since they exist in BOTH the singleplayer and multiplayer. So even if you spend most of your time offline - you'll still have decent stats when you go online.
I hope the videos aren't TOO stylized. Love the story and videos of the C&C games.
Anyway - what do you guys think?

News and Turkey....jawaproTue 23/06/2009 11:55 AM
Turkey has holidays from Uni and decided to come up here to relax for a couple of days again (this time he didn't bring friends).
I've taken a couple of days off too - so it's a nice chance to just relax and do next to nothing for a while.
On Saturday we both went to a Bishopburne LAN, which was a lot of fun. I've introduced Turks to DOTA - and we played a LOT of that.
Less fun, my windows XP decided to crash. I had my PC on the table at the LAN, but the table was starting to sag, so we had to move the PCs to the floor. I didn't turn mine off before I moved it, and somehow it corrupted my windows install.
Fourtuantly I had Windows 7 installed on a different harddrive, so a quick swap of the caddies and I was back. I havent used Win7 much yet, so it takes some getting used to.
I was pretty sure that I'd have to reinstall WinXP when I got home - but it seems to have gotten over it's problem and booted fine. Crazy!
Ah well - cant complain when things turn out not to be as bad as expected....

Disgraced and Exiled...jawaproThu 18/06/2009 10:58 PM
Neptune is currently banished to the laundry for the night because he's disgraced himself again.
He hasnt had to stay in there overnight before - so hopefully it'll teach him not to use the couch as a dunny.
He's normally a nice cat - but occasionally I think he might be improved by the addition of a brain. Maybe then he'd learn.
