Non-auction and light repairsjawaproWed 09/02/2011 06:38 PM
Oscar’s looking slightly lop-sided these days.
I’ve been feeling like an auction lately - and saw a clearing sale in the newspaper. Brilliant! Not sure why I wanted an auction, I just feel in the mood for one.
Got up early on Saturday (for a Saturday anyway) and headed into Railton for the clearing sale. Sadly it wasn’t what I expected. It was a garage sale, not an auction. Come on people - Clearing Sale means auctioneers, a lot of shouting, and a good dose of excitement, and impulse bidding!
That said - I never turn down a good garage sale, and came back with a cordless drill to replace my El-cheapo.
On the way back from the non-auction, one of Oscar’s driving lights fell off. The bracket just broke.
Being an alloy bulbar we couldn’t weld to it, but Dad found some pipe joiners that we re-tasked as a brackets, and the light is back in business. It’s a little to the back of the other light and slightly taller, giving Oscar a little crooked expression, but it works fine.
Once again, thanks for your assistance Dad!
And I still have to find an auction to fix my cravings...

The Love BoatjawaproWed 02/02/2011 07:15 PM
It would be remiss of me not to blog about the Love Boat. This was the largest model at Brickvention, and one of the most popular with the crowd.
Not only is it truly massive, it’s also a cross-section.
This was the same guy who built the Qantas A380 last year.
The inside is packed with detail.
And of course, there are lots of movie (and tv) references throughout the ship.
And for those of you who are sick of Lego posts, I’ve only got a couple more to post, so hang in there.

Brickvention - Training DayjawaproThu 27/01/2011 11:02 PM
Ok - so it’s yet more brickvention photos - sorry to non-Lego fans.
This time it’s some of the trains and their displays. The Lego Train-Heads are a breed of their own, and some of their stuff is insanely good.
Now, city layout can include trains, and train layouts can include cities etc, but if you’re a train-head, the city is just a backdrop for the trains.
That said - it can be a VERY impressive backdrop.
This one is a replica of the town of Ararat, Victoria from 1974.
Take a few minutes looking at this building. The detail they have put into this is insane. It’s not easy to get those textures out of Lego.
The main way we got around Melbourne on the weekend.
Puffing Billy (larger scale than the other trains).
The Wild West - sort of a train layout.
Once again, the detail is very impressive, including the groundwork.
And yes, Lego did make Indian sets - about 10 years ago.
And as an in-joke for Lego fans. This train is build out of Power Miners sets. Sweet!
There were many more trains - but it's difficult to take long exposure photos of moving trains.

Check out the Delorian! Converted to flight mode in the early 21st century. Shouldn’t that be about now?
And Doc Brown’s Steam Powered time machine from Back to the Future III.
Good one Doc!

Brickbeard's TrapjawaproSat 22/01/2011 12:18 AM
In addition to the Swarm Fighters, I also contributed to Brickbeard’s Trap - a combined Pirates display.
Timeprowler decided to organize a major Pirate display, and asked people to bring their ships along. I brought my Black Seas Barracuda (the original Pirate Ship) as well as my 2 Viking Longboats. I also brought along a Fort.
The following are three classic Lego Pirate sets. What do you get when you add them all together?
Well - this is what I got.
Is it an Inn, or a Fort, or a fortified Inn? Not sure - but the idea was that it kept recognizable elements from each of the three official buildings. This was my contribution to the town section of the display.
Anyway - on with the show!
This is the Death’s Breath. It’s a custom Pirate ship - and was the centre-piece of the display.
The Death’s Breath is being pursued by the Royal Navy. The Imperials think they have the pirates on the run!
Sadly for them - they can’t see around the cliff here. The Pirate captain, Brickbeard, has a surprise in store.
The chase is on!..…
Admiral Ackbar knows what’s up.
Hidden by the cliff is a mass of Pirate ships as well as the Pirate’s allies. This includes Vikings, Trolls, and a half-sea monster ship from Atlantis. They outnumber the Imperials about 3 to 1.
The Pirates are busy sacking the village. Note my Fort right in the middle! The pirates have cleared it out already and are in the process of raising their own colours and looting (one pair of Pirates is making off with a drum of Rum... why has all the Rum gone? Because the pirates stole it!)
In another section of the village, the pirates are getting ready to roast some marshmallows, or villagers.
And the docks are being looted by a whole crowd of pirates.
The majority of these small craft belong to me. Gotta love the pair of pirates who are trying to steal a cow - it makes the boat a little unsteady.
But the village has not lost all hope - a force of Imperial Soldiers arrives by land.
These pirates can’t believe it!
This soldier is leading the charge armed only with a sword and a stick! These imperials are crazy...
Now for some of the slightly more hidden elements of the display (the ones I had something to do with).
This is a custom Where’s Wally minifig I hid in the cliffs.
The islanders are cooking up a mermaid feast (thanks to Richie for the lend of the mermaid). Does mermaid count as seafood?
My pirate ship - the captain is currently winning a dual with an evil Ninja.
The rest of the crew are forcing another Ninja to walk the plank. In case you didn’t know, I support the pirates in the Pirates vs Ninja debate.
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Can’t believe I didn’t take a better photo of this - but this is one of my Viking Longships. It has 12 Vikings, and 1 Arab onboard. If anyone knows the significance of that - you have my respect.
So that’s Brickbeard’s Trap. Just one of many displays at Brickvention - but this is one that I helped with. Well done on organizing it all Timeprowler - lots or time and work went into this!
