The Gathering - Blindfold ChallengejawaproWed 31/10/2012 10:44 PM
I went to a 4WD club event called 'The Gathering' on the weekend. The turnout was rather small - but it was a lot of fun.
There was a pretty simple 4wd course that wasn't challenging anyone - until the blindfold challenge!
Imagine sitting in the drivers seat of your beloved truck with a blindfold on - listening to your wife/husband/mate giving you directions to get you around a twisty little technical course (with a couple of mud puddles thrown in). You gained a point each time you stopped moving or reversed - the least points won.
Would you trust your navigator to keep you from running into a tree?
As Oscar wasn't on the road (not to mention i didn't have any mates I'd trust with me) - I was on camera duty....

Nerf War MadnessjawaproMon 22/10/2012 08:42 AM
Prepare to be Nerfed!
What happens when you get 4 geeks, a good camera, a bean bag, and a whole bunch of Nerf guns together?
Madness of course!

Just Random StuffjawaproSun 21/10/2012 03:36 PM
Ok - I think I know why my tyre went flat now!
Unfortunately my spare was flat too - but I have a compressor so it's good now. As long as it stays up....
And can anyone tell me why someone left a bread roll in my letterbox?????
The tent peg is supposed to be there - it stops the top from opening if someone pushes big letters in (they fell out a couple of times).

Nerf vs Max ForcejawaproThu 18/10/2012 10:29 PM
There’s quite a bit of stuff going on at the moment - but I can’t really talk about it.
So instead - here’s a shot of me being an idiot with toy guns. The Nerf LongStrike is my favourite Nerf gun - but the white one is a brand new one. It’s a Max Force gun, not Nerf. Instead of foam darts, it shoots little balls of wet paper. Yep, the ammo is not reusable.
In theory the Max Force gun should be more accurate than the Nerf one - but in reality it’s not. Nerf darts go vaguely where you aim them - the paper pellets shoot straighter. Sounds good for the Max Force, but there’s a flaw in the gun.
The Max Force gun doesn’t have a trigger! Each time you pump the mechanism, it fires.
The problem with that is that you can’t hold the gun steady while pumping. The act of pumping swings you off target.
The Nerf gun has a bolt action style - you cock it, then you aim and fire. The Max Force gun tries to do it all at once and makes a bit of a dogs breakfast of it all. Still - it’s fun to shoot paper pellets at things, even if it’s not accurate. You can probably hit your mate before he finds cover, but don't try precision target shooting.
I’d wondered what the Max Force guns were like for a while - but couldn’t bring myself to buy one, because they were actually more expensive than their Nerf competition.
It now appears that Max Force have failed to find a market - as most shops have given up on them, and even Toyworld (who normally hangs on to old stock) have pulled the plug and were selling them for extreme discounts at their laneway sale. So I decided to grab one and give it a go. Not bad - but glad I didn’t pay full price.

Another G60 ShufflejawaproTue 09/10/2012 06:02 PM
Hey look - it’s another G60 on a trailer!
It’s been a while since my last G60 Shuffle (over 6 months) so it was about time to head to the far reaches of the state and bring back another car or two…
Actually - you can blame Michael, my old boss. He sent me a Gumtree ad where someone was selling a G60 in New Norfolk for $200. That’s enough to make me interested - but that’s about all - unless it has something I want for my projects.
This one had a Marks 5speed gearbox!
I’ve been looking for one for a while - including bidding on vehicles on the mainland just for the gearbox. The gearbox alone is easily worth at least $1,500.
I rang the guy as soon as I got my jaw off the floor. I was already planning to tell my boss I’d be away for the rest of the day and working out how many of my Hobartian mates I could rustle up to stand guard over it until I got there....
The bloke was telling me about it - and I couldn’t believe my ears - incredible bargain. But when we mentioned the price he realised he’d made a typo in the ad - missed a zero.
Nevertheless, from what he said it still sounded like a good buy. The gearbox alone is worth pretty much what he wanted for the vehicle - and I wouldn’t have to go to the mainland to get it.
So I sent Turkey in for a scouting mission and got a heap of photos (Turks is good like that). I ummed and ahhed for a week or so - before deciding I’d take it.
Unfortunately both Dad's and my Pajeros are currently off the road - so I called on my mate Jason to give me a hand, and Dad took the Falcon down for the trip.
There were three G60s as part of the deal - but one wasn’t worth the effort to bring back. The other was a yellow ute that looks pretty rough, but seems to have a pretty good cab all things considered.
But the impressive bit was clearly the short-wheel-base soft-top. It’s in the best nick of all my G60s - and it looks awesome. Sounds great too - as it doesn’t have an exhaust at the moment.
^ Jason’s big GU Patrol towing it’s much smaller ancestor back from Hobart.
This new G60 is awesome to behold - and will probably be the first I get back on the road now, as it should be the easiest to register.
All my G60s have names - and for now I’m calling this one Dacey (after a Game of Thrones character) but that might change. We’ll see if the name fits.
The yellow ute is currently being called Natasha (my other parts ute is called Boris) but that’ll probably change too.
And for those of you counting along at home - that makes 7 now....
