Ok - I know I promised a lot more Brickvention photos and things - and it's been over a week. Sorry guys.

Jason and I now have a Flikr account to upload all our Lego Expo photos - and I've been uploading all the historic ones. Takes ages as you can only queue 200 photos at a time. I'm working on last year's at the moment - and will then sort out this years and start posting some.

Sorry for the delay.

Brickvention casualties...

Just got back from Brickvention 2014. As always, it was a truly awesome weekend.

Wasn’t without it’s downside this year though. In addition to my bank account, there were a few unexpected casualties.

First my Blackberry had a nasty encounter with the ground, and after many years of faithful service, it finally cracked it with me.

An even older friend, my trusty Fuji camera, also packed it in. Lens fault :(
As it’s not a DSLR, you can’t remove the lens. Apparently it can be fixed - but likely for more than the old guy is worth. Jason and his camera had to step in and fill the void left by the now dead Fuji.

Time to start looking for a new camera I guess...

And that wasn’t quite the end of the issues. On the last day of the trip, Jason wanted to check out as many Cash Converters as he could. He found a good Bosch drill that he thought his Dad might want - so three phone calls, some umming and ahhing, and a bit of bartering later; he managed to talk them down $40. Not bad - but by the time we left, where we’d parked turned into a clearway and we’d copped a $144 parking fine. Ouch! So much for the discount.

My watch also died - but that just needs a new battery.

But even with those small disasters - it was still an epic weekend that I wouldn’t have missed. Many (MANY) more photos and stories to come. Stay tuned!

Massive congrats to my mate James and his wife Loretta, who got married on the weekend.

In the wedding invitation James and Loretta included a poem saying they were trying to grow a money tree but were finding it hard, and would love some assistance.

So, of course, I gave them a money tree :)

Etching with Acid...

First day of the new year - let's play with some Hydrochloric acid!

So off to K&D and sure enough, they sell acid. I thought it'd be slightly harder to obtain - but apparently not.

They also sold some gear to make it a little safer to use - gloves and mask etc (and gumboots as mine are currently at my folk's place).

So Chris and I spent two days mixing acid and spreading it over the concrete floor of the shed. The acid eats at the concrete and (in theory) allows paint to stick to it better.

It's an odd feeling spreading acid around on the floor, watching it bubble up, and then walking in it (in boots) to broom it around. It also stinks.

According to the directions the floor should feel like sandpaper after you've etched it with acid. It felt right, and having seen the state of the vacuum cleaner after I ran it over the floor - it works like sandpaper too! There are a few new holes in the head of my vacuum cleaner now - whoops.

Now, on to the painting!

Happy New Hobbit

Happy New Hobbit everyone!

Haven’t posted for a bit - work was getting stupidly hectic the tail end of last year. Late nights and weekends in the office etc. Hopefully it won’t be too bad this year - but it’ll be fairly hectic for a while yet.

Had some time off over Christmas though which was awesome. Headed down south with the family and camped on the beach for a few days. As always - it’s an awesome place to unwind down there. Entirely forgot to take any photos though - might be able to snag some from other members of the family.

Ben, Bec, Mike, and Gabs were all down too - which was brilliant. Loved spending time and just relaxing with them.

On the way back home I stopped at Dad’s for a day or so and chased some snakes out from under my G60s (that wasn’t exactly fun). By the time I made it home, Neptune was very pleased to see me.

News Year’s Eve saw a break from tradition and instead of watching Jurassic Park, Emma came up and we went to watch the new Hobbit movie. It was great - although very much a ‘middle’ story. I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the last movie now - they’re pretty close to the climax of the book as I remember it...

And today - being the first day of 2014 (wow - that’s odd to type), Chris and I decided to play with acid - but more on that later...
