Probably should point out that both my cars are going again (considering I posted that they werent below). Dad came up on Sunday arvo and we managed to sort both out, at least for now.
The Subaru started when we run-started it. Tom and I had tried earlier, but we'd both forgotten how and screwed it up :)
Once it had started, it started fine the next time. Looks like the starter motor just needed a kick.
The Pajero issue was eventually traced back to the fuel pump that wasn't working. We disconnected it and reconnected, and guess what - she ran! Having read on the internet, we probably could have got it going just by kicking the fuel tank. The fuel pumps just refuse to work sometimes as they get old. Think I'll be getting a new one before too long.
The downside is I don't have any excuse not to go to work now.
