10 years ago today was the start of a great adventure.
Being home-schooled had it's advantages. the biggest was that we'd gotten ahead of our work, so when Dad's long service came up - the family packed up into the Pajero and headed around Australia for 5 months.
10 years ago today we boarded the original Spirit of Tasmania and headed north. With our camper trailer in tow, we toured the mainland in style. There was so much we saw and did that I could ramble on about it for ages - but instead I've done something else.
Back when we were preparing for the trip - I bought myself a laptop. It's the first computer I actually ever owned, and it was an awesome 486 that cost me $500 (big deal when you're 15). Using the laptop I was able to record our trip as we went. Every now and then we'd send a copy back to the family so they could keep tabs on our progress. It became known as Rob's Log - and detailed the trip through my eyes.
So at the 10 year anniversary I am please to present Robs Log, complete and unabridged.
It's probably way too long for anyone else to want to read - but for those who were on the trip (Dad, Mum, Emma, and myself), it's a good way to remember where we went and what we did.
As the months tick by I'll try and find more photos to add to the blog. As 2000 was before digital cameras were common, we didn't take many photos. Most of what we took was video on an analogue camera (which broke for half the trip). If only I'd had a digital camera back then I'd have taken thousands of pictures.
I'd go again tomorrow if I got half a chance...
