Targa Hot Laps!Author: jawapro

Best Monday morning at work EVER!
Because work sponsors Targa Tasmania, they were given tickets to Hot Laps at Symons Plains - and for whatever reason the powers that be decided to give one of those tickets to me!
So along with a group of guys from work, I went to Symons for the morning today - and it was a blast!
The guest speakers were Jim Richards and Barry Oliver. Jim only took one person (chosen at random by a name under a chair) for a lap, and it happened to be one of the guys from work sitting next to me. Lucky devil!
The guys from work were split between a Monaro and a Datsun - but somehow they’d missed two of us, so were sent up to the Subarus! I’m certainly not complaining!
That’s Dean Herridge’s car. I was sooo close to getting a lap with him - but my head was too large for the helmet and I had to wait for the other car which had a larger helmet. Sometimes my brain is just too large...
I ended up going around with Brian Green. He’s a fair bit older than Dean, but he competed in the WRC in Sweden earlier in the year, and is heading over to NZ after Targe to do the WRC there too - so he’s no slouch. The car is naturally aspirated, but it sure felt fast enough.
It’s the first time I’ve been around a corner doing 180k! We topped 200k on the straights, which is the fastest I've ever gone in a car. The Subaru is fantastic - it just grips around the corners like nothing else. We passed quite a few cars on my 4 laps. Makes my Subaru feel jolly whimpy now.
Must say - I have great respect for anyone who can concentrate on reading pace notes while in the passenger seat going those sorts of speeds. I could barely speak.
And just because all my readers want more 4x4 posts - that’s a Hummer H2 that was a support vehicle to one of the teams. You see a lot of H3s around (relatively speaking), but H2s aren’t as common.
Not a bad way to start the working week eh? And that’s not even mentioning the free lunch.
