Routers, 3D, and other stuffAuthor: jawapro

It’s been a long and exhausting week - but this weekend has been great so far.
Friday night was a movie night at my place. Tom and Jim (2 of the regulars) weren’t able to make it, but Nick and Alistair came along - and even Klutz decided on the spur of the moment to make the trip from Launceston. Together with myself, Tim, and Zeke - my lounge room was nicely filled.
Heaps of fun watching some classics like Dr Horrible, Soldier, and the zombie spoof Shaun of the Dead.
Klutz crashed the night here - and on Saturday morning we headed into Devonport to check out the Cmax open day. They’ve just installed some new 3D stuff - and were doing a demo of 3D trailers to show it off. These glasses are a lot better than the old blue and red one I’ve used before. They even worked ok over the top of my new glasses.
3D movies are still just a gimic - but they are a watchable gimic. There were about 20 minutes of trailers, and we watched them twice. No headaches or eye strain or anything - so should be able to sit through a feature.
Afterwards we headed up to Nerd Central where Klutz invested in a comic, some American chocolate things, and some trading cards from the movie Dune. These were vintage cards from when the 1984 movie was released - so they warned him not to each the bubble gum that came with the cards (it’s as old as I am).
After that - we spent the rest of the day programming a Cisco router at my place.
Quite a while ago my 2nd Linksys router died. I’d borrowed an ADSL modem from work - and had been meaning to buy a new one. In the mean time I’d been given a secondhand
Cisco857W router. It had come from a business that didn’t need it anymore, and it wasn’t any use to them as it’s a true router. None of this sissy web-config pages. You need a roll-over cable to connect to the console on this baby! And once you're connected - you need to know how to program a Cisco router.
I haven’t touched cisco configs since uni - but thankfully Klutz has only just done that course - so he was able to get things cranking. The ADSL works fine - and so does the wireless (which took a little longer). Thanks heaps mate - I owe you a drink! On Monday I can finally return work’s modem.
So that was my weekend thus far. Pretty sweet!
