Star Trek - First showing....

Star Trek 11 has finally arrived!

Unfourtuantly there were no midnight showings for this one - but I was lined up for the first showing of the day, at 11:30 in the morning (I took the day off).

There are probably gaping continuity holes and things all through it - but I loved it. It was fantastic!

Syler makes a perfect Spock. It's uncanny - he seems more right than Leonard Nimoy (who turns up in the movie) - the original Spock.

And thankfully, the movie takes place in an alternative timeline - a fact they acknowledge in the story. Even so - I can't believe they blew up INSERT SPOILER 1 HERE!

More troubling, in the REAL timeline (the one the other Trek stories are set in) they blew up INSERT SPOILER 2 HERE which basically caused the whole alternative universe thing in the first place.

Can't believe they did that.

There's also s a very interesting plot device - not only do the audience knew who these characters are and who they are supposed to grow into, but other characters in the movie know it too! Makes you feel like you're sharing a secret with those characters.

So - first impressions were very positive. In fact, even before the movie started, the Transformers trailer was brilliant! But that's a tale for another post.

Three trips to the movies this week (Wolverine with Tom and co, Fast and Furious with Klutz, Star Trek with myself) and I might go and watch Star Trek again tomorrow if my mates are going. Good thing I'm part of the Cmax club now - I've scored 1 free popcorn, 1 free drink and popcorn combo, and 1 free movie ticket so far this week! Not bad...

P.S. Forgot to mention - Kirk doesnt even get the girl, INSERT SPOILER 3 HERE does. I guess it really is a different timeline.

Its quite funny when a geek like you is actually sociable. Although, I still maintain that going to the movies by yourself, even when it is a first showing of something, is quite sad.

Thanks for the info.  We are looking forward to seeing but time and a 1 year old makes it a little challenging.

What did you think of Wolverine?

Not bad. Better than the other Xmen movies - but far inferior to Star Trek.

As I liked the X-men movies, I had probably better go and see it/them. Been a VERY long time since I've been to the cinemas...
