Please give a warm welcome to my new external hard drive - Jordan!

Jordan (the red one) joins Boris (blue) and Zoltan (black) as my external harddrive army. Jordan is 400G, Zoltan is 320G, and Boris is a tiny 200G.

I have now discovered that I dont have enough USB ports on my computer. I have 3 harddrives, 1 monitor extension (allows me to plug stuff into my screen), a printer, a mouse, etc. I need some sort of USB hub or expansion card or something.

I got the harddrive at http://www.itestate.com.au which has good prices - but took them ages to post the order. I´d probably deal with them again though - great prices.

There´s something extremely nice about having a empty 400G harddrive. Even though it took about 2 hours to format.

shame you didn't buy one´s that you can link together.

loads out there, even ones that stack, look like lego peices

Oh also Sata is hotswapable. so you could just get some PCI sata extentions. :) (i found that out by ripping things out of my pc with out turning it off :P )

two of these are IDE - one is Sata (Jordan).

I started getting externals because I ran out of room for more IDEs inside the PC.

I suppose I could put the sata one in the PC itself - but being external can be very nice though. Easy to take somewhere so someone can access my files.

for sure!

USB is great, but remember you only have a small amount of bandwidth with USB, i keep running out if i run just my sound card.

I´ve noticed though that vista gives you more bandwidth.

First time i was able to run my sound card in 5.1 at 24 bit.

That is the first benefit I have seen in Vista. I really don´t like it. It has stacks of bugs, slow and is crash happy. It crashed, thats how I found one of the bugs!

USB doesn´t have great bandwidth, I will admit, but its still not too bad. Have seen computer games being run off external drives (and they were 5400rpm 2.5" ones as well!)

Oh, and its good to hear that the stuff has finally arrived (in working order!).  Looking forward to getting my 400Gb.

Ah - the great Vista debate.

I'm still an XP man - but I´ve decided that if I get a new PC, I'll get Vista as well. If i's as bad as people say, I'll go back to XP - but I'd rather actually give it a whirl and see for myself.

It´s annoying not knowing how to help people when they ask for help with Vista. Other than the standard "Use XP" style advice, anyway.
