For those of you who I havent told - and who havent followed the link a few posts down - I somehow managed to win a cometition.
I rarely win anything (a LCD monitor and a hamper of food is about all I have ever won). But this time I won first prize. Granted - I won first prize with the LCD too - but the point is that it´s not common.
And it wasnt just a random draw either - it was based on the originality and quality of a blog post.
A while ago Microsoft offered a deal to people with Aussie Uni Email addresses - allowing them to buy Office 2007 (Ultimat version) for $75. Normally it costs over $1000 - so the saving is huge.
Anyway - at the same time they offered a competition for people who mention it in their blogs. Sort of a ´word of mouth´ way of advertising it.
So I made a post using photos I took of my lego soldiers - and wrote a silly little story about King William Gates and his battle against the Evil Lord Macintosh etc.
I entered it in the competition as a bit of a laugh. I definatly didnt expect it to win anything.
And suddenly....
I get an email saying I´d won the first prize.
Even one of the guys who got one of the smaller prizes mentioned me in their blog (
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20070605/itsnotcheating-prize/). He was quite impressed with my silly little story too.
So I have apparently won myself a Vespa (scooter) with $1000 to equip myself ready to ride.
Not that I desperatly needed a Vespa - but hey, I wont complain.
I got a call from the competition guys today saying that I´d forgotten to tell them what State I was in (which I fixed) and that they´d pass my details on to the Vespa guys and they should get in contact with me soon regarding pickup.
I just still dont beleive it.
I had just ordered a printer and wireless mouse on the net - and I thought that was big news - but it sort of pales into insignificance in comparison.
I´m still struggling to believe it...
