Just hanging around...jawaproTue 05/01/2010 10:52 PM
Check it out!
This Raptor wall hanging quilt thing is the new center-piece of my lounge room.
Being a Jurassic Park nut, I bought the fabric panel on ebay a few years ago. I wasn’t really sure what I’d do with it, but my sister very nicely said she could turn it into a wall hanging quilt - and she has!
You can’t really tell in the photos, but Emma has stitched around the outlines of the picture to give it a 3D sort of look. It’s awesome!
The wall hanging wasn’t a Christmas present (because I bought the materials) but this guy was. It’s a hand-made Asterix fridge magnet. I’m not sure what it’s made out of, but it’s been fired and varnished and things, so hopefully it won’t go soft a fall apart. It’s very awesome though, don’t you agree.
Sometimes sisters can be very useful things to have around...

Happy New Year!jawaproFri 01/01/2010 12:14 AM
It's another year, and in fact, another decade. Congrats on making it this far.
Just think - 10 years ago tonight, we were worried that the Millenium Bug was going to bring about the end of civilization. I remember being down South on New Years in 2000, because Uncle Charlie snuck away and turned off the lights as the clock struck midnight. Aunty Sabine had a mild panic attack thinking it was the Bug until Charlie turned the lights back on.
No bugs this time, just fireworks and a multitude of SMSs with everyone wishing each other Happy New Beer etc.
Neptune doesnt like the Fireworks (we can see them from my place) but he's coming to terms with them. Personally, I like the fireworks, I just wish the night would cool off. So much for the promised rain!

Merry Day Before Boxing DayjawaproWed 30/12/2009 09:43 PM
Ok - so I know this post is rather late. Merry it anyway.
Christmas has been and gone. Thankfully Dad got a non-carols CD stuck in his car CD player, so it wasn't too bad. Not sure what we'll do when we get sick of that cd though...
Christmas day we headed out to Ansons Bay to spend the day with some of Mum's side of the family (including Grandad!). It's great to have family with Cray Pots - we probably ate hundreds of dollars worth of Crayfish, and it was great! Not that it wasn't nice to catch up with family too - but hey, it's crayfish!
Boxing Day was awesome too. Turks, Klutz, and myself had an epic Age of Empires II match, and then another one, and then some more. We spent a couple of hours trying to get Oblivion and Pilgs to join, but although the spirit was willing, the technology wasn't. Still not sure what was up there.
Enacting Viking style raids on Turkey's township is sooo much fun! Especially when playing as the Vikings.
In the time since, it's been back to work for me. In my spare time I've been scheming plans to blow up the sun. Personally I think that'd be a great way to get rid of global warming and summer and all those horrible things all at once. It's all the stupid sun's fault. Might make solar power difficult to come by - but hey, we've got hydro!
Anyway - hope you had a good break, see you next year!

Christmas Down SouthjawaproTue 22/12/2009 06:31 PM
I might not be a very big fan of Christmas (I hate carols etc) but there are some very good parts. Last weekend we went down to Taranna (where Dad grew up) for the annual Kingston family Christmas Celebration.
We were short Ayden and Chris, but picked up Rowan and Daniel’s girlfriends instead, and Daniels new baby girl, Charlie. Even Uncle Day made it down.
It’s always nice to catch up with everyone down south, and there are few places as good to relax.
The only downside was that Dad bought himself a carols CD on the way home - doh!

OscarjawaproTue 15/12/2009 06:59 PM
Finally - my Pajero and Subaru are both at my place. This week is the first time that’s happened. The Pajero might still be being worked on, but it’s actually here!
Previously when I had the Pajero at home, the Subaru was at my parents place.
Now - this brings me to another subject. It has come to my attention that some readers of my blog have been calling my Pajero "Padge". Let me clarify something - my Pajero is a Padge, but it’s name is not Padge. That would be Padge the Padge. If you must know, it’s name is Oscar.
I don’t mind cars with names. My sister has Barry (a Barina) and used to have Suzie (a Suzuki). Dad’s most famous Nissan Patrol was known as "The Tadpole".
My cars have had names - I just have rarely used them. My original Subaru was Gordon. I don’t think I ever told anyone that - I referred to it as "Granddad’s car" instead because I bought it from him.
My current Subaru is called Sideswipe. The short version of that story is that the official Subaru Transformer is an Autobot called Sunstreaker or something. I didn’t like that name, so my Subaru is a Deception called Sideswipe. Sideswipe was the name of an official transformer too, but I can’t remember which side or what make he was.
My Padge is called Oscar. Why? Well, when I saw him, he looked like an Oscar to me. If you want a better reason - when he works properly, he likes going wild, and when he doesn’t work properly, he’s a bit of a grouch...
Oscar the Headless Pajero.
