That screenshot bring back memories?

For any of you old enough to remember DOS fondly, Prince of Persia was a classic. Stupidly challenging (or at least it was to my younger self) with no save option AND a time limit, this game was a challenge I never conquered.

Since then it’s been made into a heap of games that I haven’t played (except the second one - also a DOS game). And now a movie.

It’s very rare for someone to make a good movie from a computer game. But this one is actually ok. Not one of the greatest movies by any stretch - but not a bad one either.

Sadly there is almost nothing from the original game in the movie. It’s based on the Sands of Time game which most people probably think was the first one (like most people think Underground was the first Need for Speed). If only there had been a scene where spikes poked up from the floor - just to keep the old-school fans happy.

So if the movie or this blog has made you sentimental - head over to abandonia and grab a copy of the first two games. These games are classified as ‘abandonware’ which means you can get them legally for free.

Hint - before you start playing, press SHIFT 10 times fast. If stickykeps pops up, disable it. It really sucks to discover this during your first swordfight.

Also - while you are playing, watch the intro for the first game. Sound familiar to another Disney movie?

Enjoy...

It's times like these I wish the HDD in my 386 laptop hadn't died... Nothing better than playing classic games on period hardware!

Lol. I thought PoP 2 was The Shadow And The Flame? That's the one I like at any rate - mostly because it has save, load, and you start with a sword...
