Targa Tasmania - The Game

According to the local newspaper yesterday, Targa Tasmania is finally being turned into a video game.

Personally I’ve been waiting for this since the early years of Targa. But with today’s current graphics etc, it should be pretty insane.

Not only that - but it’s being developed as a sim. That means it’s a realistic game, not some arcade racer like the recent Need for Speed games. You can even play as the navigator!

This means it’s less likely to have cars going head to head and stupid things like nitro-boost, and more likely to have a lot of stages, and hopefully fairly accurate ones.

Currently it’s being developed for the Xbox console. Not sure if they will port it to PCs.

It’s being developed by a company called DozyCow (awesome name!) and you can find a little more info at http://www.dozycow.com/

Can’t wait to go fanging around the Sidling!

Firstly, ironic number for the GTR... (996 is a model number of the Porsche 911, and when the R35 GTR was released, there was a lot of controversy about lap times around the Nurburgring between Nissan and Porsche)

Secondly, isn't it missing the point, a driving sim of Targa, when you could be out there fanging round The Sideling in a REAL car? (obviously obeying all speed limits, that goes without saying). (The Sideling is awesome enough that you don't have to break the speed limit to have fun).

I mean, I play Live for Speed (different to NFS), which is arguably the most realistic driving sim available (and there are arguments, I just don't recall the name of the other), but as far as it goes, I'd much prefer to be out in a real car going round corners. It's so much better when you're actually there, in a real car. This isn't to say I'm totally opposed to the whole idea of a Targa computer game, I just think it's kind of missing the point for Tasmanians, when we can be out there on the real roads, rather than in our living rooms playing more computer games.

But with speed limits and oncoming traffic - you can't get the same experience (without being illegal and dangerous). And of course - the game can't kill you if you push too hard.

Personally I'd like the game to be less a sim than LFS, but more of one than the arcady games. I'll definatly give it a go when it comes out.

But there's another good thing about it - what about all those people, like myself, who want to do Targa but are too young?

I have inside information about this now.

The paper didn't do a very good job of representing what the game actually is.

I can't say more than than - as it's probably confidential. Doh!
