Windows 7 - the Beta

Well - I haven't had a chance to try it myself because I've been busy prepping for the trip - but Microsoft has released the Beta for Windows 7.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

From what I HAVE heard, it's very stable for a beta - and very good too.

So if you're a die-hard geek - go and give it a whirl. You'd need a throw-away computer or a virtual machine (VMWare - for the win!) but it would be well worth checking out.

Even for Linux freaks (Turkey!) - when else are you going to get to try it legally for free?

The beta expires on a certain date, and will apparently lock you out. My mate at work is using it as his main OS and is loving it so far. Lots of the good points of Vista, but without a lot of the bad points. It's a lot less system intensive apparently.

Anyway - just making sure you all know about it. The Beta has a limited number of downloads - so hurry before you miss out.

Looks like the beta is no longer available for download. At least I couldn't manage it. And even though I love my Linux (most of the time), that isn't to say that I'm not interested in the latest Windows releases too.

This website has the direct links to the ISOs (I got mine this way because the Microsoft website was being hammered).

It also has a key posted. There are only about 10 beta keys - so you should be able to reuse that one. I found a website that listed all the different keys - but I can't find the URL anymore. Email me if you need them.
