It's back on!
The Dakar Rally has started.
The Dakar has been one of my favorite events of the last few years (since I discovered it) and every day it was on, I rush home to watch the daily recap on SBS at 6:00.
2 weeks of racing through Africa to Dakar. Bikes, Trucks, and Cars (4x4s and 2wd buggies).
It's fantastic. Brilliant way to start a new year.
But last year it was canceled. Everyone was there at the start line - and the organizers pulled the plug because of safety concerns regarding raiders in some of the areas they were travelling through.
The first year in 28 that the Dakar did not run.
This year it's back - but it feels like it's missing it's soul.
It's not in Africa anymore. They've pulled out and relocated to South America.
It's still called the Dakar Rally - even though it doesnt go to Dakar anymore. It's in Argentina and Chile now.
It's still great to watch - but it is definatly missing some of the magic.
