I have the net - sort of.

Finally - the net is working at home. The net itself seems pretty stable and good.

Unfourtuantly something has gone wrong with my router (ADSL modem). It maintains it's connection to the net perfectly, but it's the ethernet (network) connection that's giving trouble.

Initially it had me thinking that all my cables were damaged or something - as it wouldnt connect to any computers. After leaving it plugged in for a while, it eventually connected.

But it keeps dropping the network connection. Windows is saying "A network cable is unplugged." every few seconds at the moment. I know it's not really unplugged - but the router is doing something stupid.

Maybe my trusty Linksys has had it's day. It was second hand when I got it.

I can browse the net like this for now - but I doubt I'd be able to play any games or anything else that needs a steady connection.

I have to say, it does sound like a cable problem, but the chances of all your cables dying at one time aren't exactly brilliant. You should try testing a cable, link two computers together, make sure that it isn't your cable. If it is, well, that's pretty much the best option. Otherwise, it looks like it might be time go buy another wireless modem/router. Or just get a wireless card. That may work...

Either way, see you online sometime shortly!

Frustrating! Sympathies and best wishes for a restored connection. I HATE unresolved computer problems... which is one of the reasons... nevermind.... ;)

yes, yes, yes - we know. You love Macs. Glad to see your husband admitted he was foolish though. Right in the middle of a sermon (or maybe it was catacism). He was saying that Dad and I were the most knowledgeble regarding computers in the congregation, and how it would be foolish to ignore our advice regarding what computers to buy - which is exactly what he did.

Regardless - a problem with an ADSL router would affect either computer exactly the same.

Actually - not exactly the same. With a PC it means you cant use the net, but you can still play games and things. With a Mac - it means you cant really do anything worthwhile (which is about the same as when the nets working anyway).

Robert, you sound defensive.  Has my wife hit a tender spot?

Despite what you may think I did not ignore you and your father's advice about the Mac.  I simply differed in light of other advice I recieved from more experienced computer people outside the congregation.

The place looks great though.  The Lord certainly is leading you step by step.

Nah - I just always take any opertunity to bag out a Mac (or defend a PC). I'm like that - you get used to it eventually.

And I fully support him in this pursuit!
