Well - it appears I have some rather ignorant friends - so here's a map of where Mount Isa actually is, and the rough  route we're planning to take back to Tassie.

The Black Arrow is pointing to Mount Isa - mainly because Nifen didnt know where it was. The blue line is the stuff we'll be driving, and the green line is the part of the journey that we'll do onboard the Spirit. The green arrows were there when I stole the map from google - ignore them.

I'm flying to Brisbane on the way up - but I havent marked that.

And for my American friends - here is another rough map - with Australia and America overlayed - so you can get an idea of distance etc.

Well, I'm not ignorant.  I maps.googled your route.  It looks like its over 3000km, which is going to be one heck of a drive.  I hope you and Klutz enjoy the road trip.
I appreciate the map overlay.  I didn't realize that Australia was as big as the States.  Ok, so maybe I am ignorant.

I was refering to Nifen - who grew up in Australia - but still had no idea where Mount Isa was.

Klutz and his family did the trip in reverse in under 4 days of driving. We're taking it a bit easier on the way down - so hopefully it'll be fun.

hmm.
It will take a few hours on a plane YES! Took about 8 hours from when I left Tasmania to even get out of Australia.

Its quite funny. On the plane, you get a map on the screen which shows where the plane is to where you are on the world.

It appears to move quite quickly, until you get to Australia where it just stops and doesn't move for ages. Australia is just soooo HUGE!. I didn't realise how large it was until flying out of Australia.
